The Playlist of Songs for Being Sick/ Dealing with Chronic Illness/ Dealing with Disease

Ever just need to rock out to your allergies? What about getting your groove on to the rythm of your projectile vomiting? Maybe you just want to cry about your list of new prescriptions on your way home from the doctor? Sounds like your life? Then you’ll just love this playlist I’ve put together on meaningful songs revolving around chronic illness!

My Body – Young The Giant

Why: The lyrics just roar!

The verse that really hits you:

My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more

Born and Raised – John Mayer

Why: Cause I love John Mayer. And the dreams line kind of reminds me of how much it sucks to have to lower your expectations when you live life with chronic illness.

The verse that really hits you:

I still have dreams, they’re not the same
They don’t fly as high as they used to
I saw my friend, he’s in my head
And he said, “You don’t remember me, do you?”

Feel Again – One Republic

Why: I love One Republic, this song is very upbeat–motivating.  I like the heart still beating line because I have a heart problem.

The verse that really hits you:

It’s been a long time coming since I’ve seen your face
I’ve been everywhere and back trying to replace
Everything that I’ve had till my feet went numb
Praying like a fool that’s been on the run
Heart still beating but it’s not working
It’s like a million dollar phone that you just can’t ring
I reach out trying to love but I feel nothing
Yeah, my heart is numb]

Look After You – The Fray

Why: This one is more of a love song. I like to think about R.J, and not my dog, when I listen to it.

The verse that really hits you:

There now, steady love, so few come and don’t go
Will you won’t you, be the one I always know
When I’m losing my control, the city spins around
You’re the only one who knows, you slow it down

Here It Goes Again – OK GO

Why: The lyrics on this one are pretty much what I say to myself everytime a symptoms catches me off guard and I’m like “I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN I WOULD NEED A BAND-AID.”

The verse that really hits you:

Just when you think you’re in control
Just when you think you’ve got a hold
Just when you get on a roll

Ah here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again
I should have known, should have known, should have known again
But here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes
Oh, here it goes
Oh, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again

I guess there’s gotta be a break in the monotony
But Jesus, when it rains how it pours
