Round two of our somewhat regular feature: What about you!? I talk a lot on this blog about me. My problems. My perceptions. My poodle. But what good is having a huge community of rare and chronic illness patients if they don’t get involved in the conversation? So this Wednesday I’m hoping you’ll join in by commenting below with your responses.
What Medication Changed Your Life (For Better or Worse)
The first time I took a Z-Pack I was seven and in the hospital with pneumonia. It was my first time ever being hospitalized and with everything going in through an IV–I had no clue what I was being medicated with. (It’s not like I was going to understand at seven anyways.) All I knew was that over the course of five minutes I went from feeling slightly bad to oh mY GOD GRAB THE BUCKET before I just started projectile vomiting in my hospital bed. And from then on I was a little more informed and also cautious and scarred for life when it came to medications.
As far as medications changing my life by saving it, the award goes to Desipramine, my lord and savior. It brought entire categories of solid food back into my diet and my life and I am forever grateful to the GI who thought to try me on it!
So, that leads us to this week’s question: Has there ever been a medication that just changed your life? Something that either FINALLY helped a long-term symptom for better or for worse? Tell us your story in the comment section below!
